We went to the “low country” for vacation. The low country being South Carolina. Apparently all of Ohio vacations there. We felt right at home. I think us northerners really annoy the locals, but I’m ok with that.
This was the first time my 3 little stooges saw the ocean. The first thing they did when we arrived on the soft sandy beach was flop down and make sand angels. They looked like three pale starfishes!
I love beach vacations! The ocean breeze hitting our faces, the sound of the rolling waves, the smell of sunscreen on our skins and the sand in our toes. I was hoping the sand would give me a natural pedicure. Oh that sand. I have a love hate relationship with sand. I really do. I love it because we do not have sand in Ohio. It’s soft, you can shape it into sand kingdoms, plus, where there’s sand, there’s water! I do NOT like sand because it inevitably gets in some one’s eye (often due to a sibling), it’s in our food and it somehow ends up in my kids butts (sorry to be graphic, but it’s the truth!) Lets not forget that sand follows you all the way home! It’s in the van, in the suitcases, in the carpet because sea shells need to be sorted! And I’ll be honest, I think I saw a piece of sand in my belly button. I don’t often look in there, but for some reason, I glanced down and thought something was amiss. Turns out it was just dry skin. Boy would that have been embarrassing!
Anyhoo, back to vacation, South Carolina is beautiful. The weather was perfect and the food was fresh. As a tribute, I made Low Country Boil, aka, Frogmore Stew. This meal is so fun, how often do you get to eat your whole meal with your hands!!! Have a roll of paper towels handy for your low country boil because it will get messy. Traditionally, low country shrimp boils or Frogmore Stew is just dumped out on newspapers. Have cocktail sauce and melted butter on the side. I like spicy food, so I usually add Tabasco sauce to each bite. Kids love it, adults love it. It’s a great summer party idea! Enjoy!
