Garlic shrimp alfredo is saucy, creamy and so delicious!
This pasta dish is crave-worthy comfort food that impresses and satisfies!
When my kids were little, their favorite “fancy” place to eat was Olive Garden. Every birthday or special occasion, this was where the kids asked to be taken.
The kids grew up on my pasta recipes, but I guess those were too commonplace for them. The dishes at the Olive Garden seemed so “worldly” I suppose. The bottomless salad bowls and never-ending breadsticks were also a big draw!
Alfredo was one of their favorite dishes to order! The sauce was luscious, creamy and smooth; the kids always devoured it!
The kid’s sill devour Alfredo, however, they prefer the homemade sauce to the restaurant version (score one for mom)!
What Is Garlic Shrimp Alfredo
Shrimp Alfredo recipe is pasta that is coated in a creamy, white sauce that is usually thickened and flavored with grated Parmesan cheese. Shrimp are sauteed in garlic and butter then tossed with the alfredo sauce or is served on top. The whole meal is quick and easy!
Alfredo sauce might seem intimidating, but it is actually quite simple.
How To Make Garlic Shrimp Alfredo
Since I have already posted how to make Garlic Shrimp, I won’t spend time on it here. Our time is better spent by discussing how to make a really good alfredo sauce instead!
I love making homemade alfredo sauce, it just feels decadent, but only takes minutes to prepare! Alfredo sauce is basically a white sauce enhanced with grated Parmesan cheese. I start by making a roux, which means I whisk butter and flour together until they form a thick “paste”.
I slowly stream in half and half stirring the entire time. The mixture will need to thicken; let the milk come to a low and slow boil; you want tiny bubbles around the edge. Add in Parmesan cheese and stir until thickened. This sauce will get tossed with al dente fettuccine noodles!
Can I Freeze Garlic Shrimp Alfredo
Yes, alfredo sauce CAN be frozen. It is best to prepare the sauce only and freeze it (cooled and stored in a plastic bag). Cooked shrimp do not reheat well.
If you find yourself with leftover, shrimp alfredo can be stored in the fridge for 1-2 days. To reheat the alfredo, place the pasta in the microwave-safe place and heat for 45 -60 seconds or until heated through.
Keep in mind the sauce will not be as creamy and the shrimp might be a bit tough. Shrimp Fettucine Alfredo is best when consumed immediately.
What To Serve With Garlic Shrimp Alfredo?
Since shrimp alfredo tends to be on the rich side you may want to serve up a light and Easy Spinach Salad, or a Harvest Salad and perhaps some crusty bread. Finish your meal off with a refreshing Panna Cotta or Strawberry Tiramisu Angel Food Cake.
