A citrusy sweet apple cider hot toddy recipe that will warm you up from the inside out!
Alcohol has always been a home remedy for my family. Now, wait, it’s not what you think. Hear me out. When I had a cough or a sore throat as a kid, my dad would reach for honey. He’d lovingly grab a spoonful to put in my tea. My mom would scoff and tell him to forget the honey; he should pour in some rum instead. The honey always won, however, but mom would swear under her breath that the rum would have been better
I also remember experiencing several outrageously high fevers as a kid. My superstitious Greek parents were certain that some old lady gave me the “stink eye” and put a hex on me which lead to my hallucinogenic fevers. My parents would rush me to a very cold bath then rub vodka all over my chest. I’m going to say the cold water broke my fever, but my parents would argue it was the vodka.
I’ve never tried these home remedies on my own family; I probably never will. However, I can see serving myself one of these hot toddies when I’m feeling a bit under the weather. The warm, sweet apple cider has therapeutic properties all on it’s own, but with a hint of citrus and some belly warming bourbon, you have yourself the perfect elixir to combat your aches and pains. This hot toddy recipe is not just a remedy, it’s a delicious and simple fall cocktail. It’s reason enough to stock up on apple cider now and then HOARD it! I may be the only person sipping on this hot toddy recipe in July, but hey I’ll feel good!
