Margaritas, mojitos, and piña coladas remain familiar choices at bars, but one drink has taken the top spot in a global cocktail ranking. The Margarita leads the list, ahead of the Mojito and Piña Colada, according to Bacardi’s 2026 Cocktail Trends Report.

The ranking draws on consumer research conducted by Bacardi and The Future Laboratory, examining cocktail preferences across international markets. Familiar combinations dominate the results, with rum and Coke, whisky and Coke, and several spirit-and-mixer drinks appearing among the top ten.
American search behavior tells a different story. While the Margarita leads Bacardi’s global ordering ranking, the Old Fashioned attracts more cocktail-related searches in the United States, according to separate data covering August 2024 through July 2025.
Margarita leads the world’s most ordered cocktails
The Bacardi Cocktail Trends Report 2026 places the Margarita first, followed by the Mojito and Piña Colada.
The report’s top 12 cocktails are:
- Margarita
- Mojito
- Piña Colada
- Rum & Coke
- Whisky & Coke
- Spritz
- Vodka Lemonade
- Vodka Soda
- Gin & Tonic
- Dry Martini
- Irish Coffee
- Bloody Mary
The first three drinks combine spirits with fruit, citrus, or other sweet and acidic ingredients, while several lower-ranked choices rely on a spirit and a single mixer.
The Dry Martini appears in tenth place, behind drinks such as Vodka Soda and Gin & Tonic.
These positions reflect Bacardi’s consumer research rather than a complete count of cocktails sold at every bar worldwide.
Americans search for a different cocktail
Search data covering August 2024 through July 2025 places the Old Fashioned first among cocktail searches in the United States.
The Margarita follows in second place, with the Espresso Martini taking third.
In Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Connecticut, the Espresso Martini attracted more searches than the Old Fashioned during the period examined.
The difference comes from what the two datasets measure. Bacardi’s report examines reported global cocktail orders and preferences, while the American ranking tracks online searches.
A cocktail can attract substantial interest from people looking for recipes without holding the same position in bar-order rankings.
The Margarita also appeared in a Guinness World Records achievement in 2026, when Princess Cruises sold 3,410 Margaritas in eight hours aboard Regal Princess.
That record offers another example of the drink’s popularity, although it doesn’t establish how often Margaritas are ordered across all bars.
The global ranking and American search results point to two different favorites: the Margarita leads Bacardi’s reported cocktail orders, while the Old Fashioned leads U.S. cocktail searches.
