You wipe down the shower door after every use, but the glass still looks cloudy by the weekend. Why does regular cleaning barely make a difference?

When the bathroom light hits the shower door, pale streaks show up where water droplets dried. A quick spray may remove fresh grime, but it often leaves the stubborn haze behind. A simple change can make a difference, though it calls for careful use and a thorough rinse.
Bar Keepers Friend powder can clear cloudy shower glass
Bar Keepers Friend powder cleanser can remove the soap scum and hard-water deposits that make glass shower doors look cloudy. Its oxalic acid helps loosen mineral buildup, while gentle scrubbing lifts residue from the glass. Plain water may rinse away fresh soap, but it usually leaves an established hazy film behind.
The powder is one option for this job, not a reason to scrub harder. Bar Keepers Friend soft cleanser and MORE spray can also be applied to cloudy shower glass, then rinsed thoroughly. Whichever form is used, keeping it off nearby stone and rinsing it promptly matter as much as the scrubbing.
Soap and hard water leave different residues
Soap scum forms when soap reacts with calcium and magnesium in hard water. The reaction produces residue that clings to glass rather than washing away cleanly. Hard water also leaves mineral spots when droplets evaporate, so a door can develop both a white haze and visible spots.
This is why a quick rinse often makes the glass look better only while it is wet. Once the water dries, deposits still attached to the surface become visible again. Removing the buildup, then drying the door, addresses both the existing film and the fresh water droplets that can leave more spots.
A short application and thorough rinse are essential
For the powder, mix a small amount with enough water to form a spreadable paste. Apply it to the cloudy glass, then gently scrub in circular motions with a non-abrasive sponge or ultra-fine #0000 steel wool. Try the tool on a small, inconspicuous area first, especially if the door has a coating or nearby trim that could be damaged.
Rinse the cleanser off thoroughly with warm water within 1 minute of application. Do not let it dry on the door or sit longer while working on another area. Finish by drying the glass with a clean microfiber cloth, which removes droplets before they can leave new mineral spots or streaks.
Persistent haze may not be removable
Heavy soap scum or mineral buildup may take 2 to 3 scrub-downs. If the first pass leaves residue, rinse and dry the area before applying fresh cleanser for another short pass. If repeated cleaning does not improve the haze, the glass may be permanently etched or otherwise damaged; more scrubbing will not restore it.
Keep Bar Keepers Friend off polished granite and marble, which the acidic cleanser can dull, and do not use it in enclosed spaces without a drain where it cannot be rinsed thoroughly. Never combine it with bleach, ammonia or other cleaners. For a shower door, work only where the cleanser can be rinsed away completely, and stop if the glass or its finish shows signs of damage.
