Halloween food often means cupcakes covered in candy eyes, cookies shaped like ghosts, and desserts loaded with orange frosting. Finding something for dinner that fits the holiday can take more effort than the decorations themselves. But a package of hot dogs and one tube of crescent dough can turn an ordinary meal into a tray of edible mummies.

The idea comes from Taste and Tell’s mummy hot dogs recipe, which uses thin strips of refrigerated dough to create bandages around each hot dog. No special molds, homemade pastry, or complicated shaping are required.
The best part is that the wrapping doesn’t need to look perfect. Uneven strips and exposed sections make the hot dogs resemble mummies, while small eyes added after baking give each one a face.
One tube of dough makes enough bandages for 10 hot dogs
Start with an 8-ounce tube of refrigerated crescent rolls and 10 hot dogs. Edible candy eyes are optional.
Unroll the dough and divide it into four rectangles, each formed from two connected triangles. Press the seams together so the dough forms continuous sheets.
Cut each rectangle lengthwise into 10 thin strips using a pizza cutter or sharp knife. That produces 40 strips, enough to wrap each hot dog with four pieces.
Wind the dough around the hot dogs, leaving a small opening near one end for the face. The strips can overlap and cross at different angles, creating the appearance of mummy bandages.
Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on a baking sheet.

The bandages turn golden in the oven
Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake the wrapped hot dogs for 13–17 minutes, until the crescent dough turns golden brown and cooks through.
As the dough bakes, it puffs around the hot dogs, creating raised bands with gaps between them.
Let the hot dogs cool enough to handle before adding the eyes.
A small dot of ketchup or mustard can hold edible candy eyes in place. For a savory version without candy decorations, use small dots of mustard or ketchup to create the faces.
Serve the mummies warm with extra ketchup and mustard for dipping.
Pizza dough can replace crescent dough if that’s what you have available, although its texture and baking time may differ.
The recipe takes about 32 minutes from preparation to serving and makes 10 mummy hot dogs. It’s a Halloween dinner that gets its appearance from how the dough is wrapped, not from additional decorations or specialty ingredients.
