Dish soap makes sense for greasy oven racks. Putting that soap in the freezer first does not.
TikTok creator @fabulosa_cleaning shared a cleaning method that turns liquid dish soap into solid pieces before it touches the oven. Instead of squirting soap across the metal rungs, she freezes small portions, then uses each piece to work across the baked-on grime.
Dish Soap Goes Into a Mini Muffin Pan
The process starts away from the oven.
Pour dish soap into the cups of a mini muffin pan, using about a tablespoon in each section. An ice cube tray can serve the same purpose if you don’t have a mini muffin pan.
Put the filled tray in the freezer and leave it there until the soap has frozen.
That changes how the dish soap can be handled. Instead of liquid running between the oven-rack bars, you have a small solid piece you can hold against the metal.
Frozen Soap Goes Straight Onto the Oven Rack
Remove one frozen portion and rub it along the dirty oven-rack rungs.
The creator works the frozen dish soap back and forth across areas with baked-on residue. As the soap makes contact with the rack, it starts loosening the grime while staying concentrated where you’re working.
This isn’t a no-contact cleaning method. The frozen piece still needs to be rubbed across the dirty areas. The difference is that the soap itself becomes the piece you’re holding against the rack.
The Shape Makes the Soap Easier to Control
Oven racks are awkward to clean because there isn’t one broad, flat surface.
Each rack has narrow bars, corners, intersections, and spaces that need attention. Liquid soap can run off those surfaces before you work it into the grime.
Freezing the soap gives it a temporary shape. You can move the solid piece along one rung, turn it, then work it across another section without pouring more soap over the entire rack.
Rinse the Rack After the Grime Comes Off
Once you’ve worked across the dirty sections, rinse the oven rack with cool water to remove the soap and loosened residue.
Putting paper towels or a dish towel underneath the rack while cleaning can catch drips and grime before they reach the counter or work surface.

I Didn’t Expect the Freezer to Be Part of Cleaning the Oven
Nothing unusual is being added to the soap. The trick changes its form instead.
Dish soap starts as a liquid, spends time in a mini muffin pan or ice cube tray in the freezer, then comes back out as something you can rub across each oven-rack rung.
It sounds backward to freeze something designed to pour from a bottle, but that’s what makes this cleaning method stand out.
