Burnt grease, dried food, pasta pieces, and dark stains covered this white gas stovetop. The worst spot surrounded one burner, where a spill had formed a thick brown ring against the enamel.

The person who shared the cleanup on Reddit said milk had boiled over around the burner and wasn’t cleaned up at the time. Continued use of the stove baked the spill onto the surface.
Instead of reaching for a new stove cleaner, the creator found another option in the bathroom: toothpaste.
Burnt Milk Left the Toughest Stain

The upper burner shows how much residue had accumulated. A dark brown patch covers much of the white enamel around the burner, with grease and food scattered across the rest of the stovetop.
The creator removed the larger pieces first, then used toothpaste with a dish brush to scrub the surface. Toothpaste was already in the house, so the cleanup didn’t require buying another product.
Hot Water Helped With Stubborn Spots

Not every mark came off with scrubbing. For areas that held onto baked-on residue, the creator soaked a dishcloth in hot water and placed it over the stains. The damp heat helped soften material that resisted the first pass.
Some toothpaste was also left on the stovetop for a couple of hours after most of the grime had been removed. The creator thought the extra contact time may have contributed to the cleaner white surface.
White Enamel Came Back Into View

Once the loose debris, grease, and burned residue were removed, the change was hard to miss. White enamel that had been hidden beneath brown stains was visible again, including the area around the burner where the boiled-over milk had burned onto the stove.
Toothpaste can contain mild abrasives, so this isn’t a method to use on every stovetop without checking the surface first. The creator tested it on the side of the stove before continuing, a useful precaution for any unconventional cleaning method.
Most of the Staining Disappeared

The closer view shows the finished left side with the enamel free from the layers of food and dark residue seen in the first photos. The black grate stayed in place, while the white surface beneath it went from grease-caked to clean.

The result also changed the creator’s approach to upkeep. In the discussion, they said grease left on the stove collected dirt and then baked onto the surface during later use, and planned to wipe the stovetop more often to prevent another buildup.
