Who isn’t a pizza lover? I’m not sure about you, but I am! Don’t get me started on the endless pizza options to choose from. In this article, I will be discussing some vegan pizza options and the different ways you can make it. When people hear the word vegan, they immediately assume that the food will be nasty. In fact, vegan pizza isn’t horrible at all. I’m vegan myself, so it’s actually pretty great!
Why Vegan Pizza?
Pizza that has been made with animals (100% dairy and meat), isn’t the healthiest. Whereas vegan pizza is a bit more nutritious. I’m not saying that you can’t make tasty vegan pizza—because you most definitely can. Aside from just eating vegan pizza, maintaining a stable vegan diet isn’t so bad either—if you do it the right way. Just like there are pros to having a plant-based diet, there are also some cons. I’ll be naming several of them below.
Pros and Cons of a Plant-Based Diet:
Committing to a vegetarian/vegan diet is a difficult task, however, there are many benefits that come with this lifestyle.
Pros of a Plant-Based Diet
- If you dedicate yourself to a plant-based diet, your chances of heart disease and any other diseases decrease.
- A plant-based diet is capable of lowering your body weight. This primarily depends on the type of foods that you eat and portion sizes.
- Plant-based diets are very low in saturated fat. You can expect not to put on as much weight. Plant-based diets are also low in carbohydrates. Vegan foods aren’t usually heavy on your stomach.
- As said by Mealpreponfleek.com, “Plant-based diets are also high in minerals, fiber, and antioxidants.”
- According to manderson.org, “Eating a plant-based diet improves the overall health of your gut so you are better able to absorb the nutrients from food that support your immune system and reduce inflammation.”
- There is a reduced carbon footprint (this is the greenhouse gas emission that is caused by someone, an event, or an organization. It also expresses as a carbon dioxide equivalent. Carbon dioxide isn’t really good in foods.
- Plant-based diets can lower blood pressure.
- High supplements of phylonutrients (phylonutrients include bright foods like oranges, mangos, bell peppers, and sweet potatoes).
- Vegans/vegetarians don’t eat meat, so their protein will mainly consist of nuts, beans, and tofu products. These are all great alternatives to meat.
- Plant-based diets are also very rich in iron.
Cons of a Plant-Based Diet:
Please hear me out. Plant-based diets aren’t for everyone. If you’re going to dedicate yourself to this type of diet, then you must plan accordingly. Choosing not to do this the right way can result in complications.
- Although a plant-based diet can lower your risk of diseases, unfortunately, it can’t lower the risk of cancer.
- a vegetarian/vegan diet can result in hair loss.
- This may be an iffy one, but plant-based diets may sour your mood. as quoted my Webmd.com, “Research on this is mixed. Some studies on this have found that going meatless improves mood and others have found the opposite. In one study of 400 new mothers, 80 reported postpartum depression. A vegetarian diet was one diet that seemed to make it more likely to be depression.”
- Not getting all of the supplements that you need will result in nutrition deficiency.
- Meal planning and preparation is a must.
- If you choose to change your plant-based diet in any way, then you must carefully do so. If not, then this could result in getting sick (i.e. catching a common cold and experiencing temporary side effects).
- Keep in mind that this is your body we’re talking about. Adapting to a plant-based diet won’t be easy. it’s going to take some time.
- This is the not-so-fun part… you’ll have to prepare every meal on your own.

If you’d like to go a bit over the top and stuff the crust of your pizza, then this is the recipe for you! This vegan pizza is topped with onions, vegan mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, spinach, and of of course, your choice of pizza sauce. (mushrooms are great alternatives for meat by the way). Oh, and I almost forgot. The vegan cheese is made out of cashews! Cool, right? There’s one thing that I love the most about this pizza recipe. You don’t have to worry about not getting any protein because the “mozzarella cheese” is made out of cashews (and it melts just the same as dairy cheese)!
2. Vegan Nacho Pizza
This pizza recipe would be great for a Super Bowl party. This pizza is topped with olives, guacamole, jalapeños, and tomatoes. To give this pizza more of a hearty flavor, it also has a layer of vegan “meat” crumbs. This Vegan Nacho Pizza is also drizzled with vegan sour cream. This recipe uses vegetable proteins crumbs, but you could also implement your own choice of “meat”.
3. Creamy Vegan Coconut Mushroom Pizza
Sometimes, it can be difficult to implement coconut in a dish–but it doesn’t have to be! This pizza is topped with mushrooms, a homemade coconut pizza sauce, and your choice of herbs. If you’re looking for something rich and creamy, then this would be a great fit for your taste buds!
4. Grilled BBQ Lentil Pizza
I bet this pizza tastes as good as it sounds! I’ve never thought once about grilling pizza, but I’ll keep that in mind. I know what some of you are thinking (BBQ and pizza don’t really pair together); however, I beg to differ. This vegan pizza option is topped with lentils (legumes), red onions, parsley, jalapeños, and wait for it… pineapples! I love pineapple pizza. It’s one of my favorite go-to’s. This pizza may sound hard to make, but you can make it easy. You don’t have to put the crust of this pizza on an outside grill. You can buy an indoor grill instead (George Foreman and Hamilton Beach grills are the best).
5. Vegan Greek Pizza
If you’re in the mood for a refreshing mediterranean dish, then follow this recipe. This pizza option is topped with (Kalamata) red olives, artichoke hearts, hummus, fresh herbs, and tomato sauce. Do you want to know what would be another great topping for this Greek pizza? Homemade vegan feta or “goat cheese” crumbs. Don’t forget to drizzle with a little Tzatziki sauce!

If you’re looking for something simple, then click the link to this recipe. This option is made with a thin crust, homemade tomato sauce, and vegan mozzarella (again, this vegan cheese is made with cashews).

8. Barbecue Baked Pineapple & Tofu Pizza with Spicy Hoisin BBQ Sauce
This pizza is topped with pineapples, tofu (a great meat alternative when cooked properly), fresh parsley, and bbq sauce! Honestly, I’m a little eager to taste this one. This pizza option would be a great fit for a cookout or other festive outing.

Now, if you’re on the leafy side of the spectrum and you prefer vegetables, this would be a great option for you. This is yet again another BBQ flavored pizza. It’s topped with crispy cauliflower, green onions, and fresh chopped parsley. It’s also drizzled with what looks like vegan ranch dressing.

“How do you even make a vegan pepperoni pizza”, you may ask. Well, this isn’t your average default pepperoni pizza. It’s topped with spicy zucchini slices (the vegan pepperoni alternative), and your choice of vegan cheese.
13. Vegan Breakfast Pizza Recipe
If you’re searching for a new breakfast pizza in the morning, try leaning towards this one. This breakfast pizza is topped with a soft tofu scramble, your choice of pizza sauce, and homemade seitan sausages! For those of you who don’t know what seitan is, it’s a component made of gluten wheat. Seitan is a great meat alternative. It can be used to make vegan steak, sausages, etc. (basically any vegan “meat” that comes to mind).
14. Vegan Deep Dish Pizza
I’ve actually tried this recipe before, and it’s really good! You won’t be disappointed. I love this pizza because you get a mouthful of everything in one big bite. This pizza is made with a semi-thin pizza crust, and topped (and stuffed) with your choice of veggies and pizza sauce.

I’ve come across this recipe a few times, but I never got a chance to make it. I would love to try it though! This vegan pizza is topped with kale, roasted tomatoes, your choice of vegan cheese, vegan “chicken” and layered with a white pizza sauce. I’m going to assume that the white pizza sauce is some vegan Alfredo sauce. And why yes, you surely can make vegan “chicken”! I make vegan “chicken” often and I make it out of extra firm tofu. You should give it a try!
16. Easy Veggie Vegan Pizza
Just like the recipe says, this is a very simple recipe. This pizza is topped with mushrooms, red onions, green bell peppers, olives, your choice of pizza sauce, and vegan parmesan cheese!

Truthfully, this pizza looks a little… odd, but I’d be open to giving it a try. This vegan pizza option is layered with roasted butternut squash and topped with sage leaves.
18. Vegan Caramelized Mushroom Pizza
I’ve tried this vegan pizza recipe also and it’s one of my favorites! It’s made with a soft, pillowy pizza dough, topped with caramelized mushrooms, a thick white sauce, rosemary, and fresh vegan mozzarella. Instead of rosemary, I used oregano and it tasted just as delicious.
19. Vegan Caprese Pizza
This pizza is topped with fresh vegan mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and fresh basil.
20. Sweet Potato Pizza Crust
This is another delicious pizza. Just when I thought I’ve seen it all (it turns out I haven’t)! This vegan pizza option isn’t made with your average pizza dough. It’s made with sweet potatoes.
