My Scrambled Eggs Needed More Flavor, so I Added This Popcorn Seasoning

Salt and pepper weren’t doing enough for my scrambled eggs, so I reached for something I usually keep for movie night: butter-flavored popcorn seasoning.

One sprinkle adds butter flavor and salt without putting a pat of butter into the eggs. The trick is adding the seasoning before the eggs reach the pan rather than shaking it over them after cooking.

My Scrambled Eggs Needed More Flavor, so I Added This Popcorn Seasoning

Mix the Popcorn Seasoning Into the Raw Eggs

Crack the eggs into a bowl and add a small amount of butter-flavored popcorn seasoning before whisking. The seasoning disperses through the eggs, so the butter flavor ends up throughout the scramble.

Start with less than you think you need. Popcorn seasoning often contains salt, and adding too much can overpower the eggs. You can taste the finished scramble and add another pinch at the end.

Check the label before adding your usual salt since sodium content varies between seasoning blends.

You Get Butter Flavor Without Adding Butter

Butter-flavored popcorn seasoning is designed to give popcorn a buttery, salty taste from a small amount of powder. Scrambled eggs provide another place where that same flavor works.

It doesn’t replace butter’s role as a cooking fat, so you’ll still need a suitable cooking fat or nonstick pan if your eggs tend to stick. The seasoning is there for flavor rather than for greasing the pan.

This also means you can control the two parts on their own. Cook the eggs with your preferred fat, then use the seasoning to adjust the butter flavor.

Add Vegetables or Meat After Seasoning the Eggs

Butter flavor works with many of the ingredients already used in scrambled eggs. Spinach, kale, broccoli, onions, or shallots can go into the pan before the eggs.

Chicken or turkey sausage can turn the scramble into a larger breakfast. Keep any extra salt in mind when adding sausage, cheese, or other seasoned ingredients since the popcorn powder may have already added enough.

Butter popcorn seasoning may live next to the snacks, but it doesn’t have to stay there. A small shake into raw eggs gives scrambled eggs a different flavor without pulling several seasonings from the cabinet.

Would you put butter popcorn seasoning in scrambled eggs, or does it belong on popcorn only?
